Hello folks
First timer here, so apologies if this is a heated topic.

To cut to the chase, I'd like to know if folks use a centring bit of some description,
and also if folks have any sort of positive stop for the lateral axis of the table.

Apart from one or two things, like table flex, I still see issues arising whilst dropping the table to change bits.
I have to guess I'm missing something and this non issue is addressed with some clever solution,
as I've not seen any contraptions to bolt to the base which could be adjusted to suit a centring bit,
some sort of cone which I guess would be of similar shape to the step bits.

Here's what I've been doing

This cylindrical stock is bored out accurately already, just to get that outta the way.
Table locked and trammed

Same done with the vice

Made this jig and went sharpening all me bits

Since this was pre bored, woulda thunk lining it up with that size bit and locking everything up would have everything aligned
for when I swapped bits
Drilling this is gradual increments, which I imagine is less likely to wander.:o

Still having trouble, kinda thought twisting the bit backwards in the work, whilst gradually tightening the table lock up would do the trick,
possibly more successful with steel, which I've had better luck with,
but failed with that too, (unsure if case hardening had anything to do with it)

Have no more iron chunks to make this part from, so have to make do with some plastic :-
Hope that doesn't bother anyone,

Eager to see some solutions for this, as it wont be the last time I'll be doing this kinda thing, and I think worth welding or rigging something up for the job, maybe involving a car jack f some description, but seems I'm too late to grab a cheapie from Liddles
Would be interested in seeing any kind of solution really.

Thanks for reading, hope I can glean some information.
