I forget if I have asked part of this before. Apologies if I have .

I want to make some fittings out of 4140 soon.
I was also turning some simple 4140 stub axles for a machine trolley out of it today . I used some HSS and it could have been a bit dull ? It seemed to just rub off the cutting edge round. I was rushing and just went onto Carbide and got it done . So I don't know if I had re ground the HSS sharp and tried again if it would have worked or not .

When I go to do the nice fittings I need . A bit like this below with a 5/8 Whitworth thread on it . Should I forget the HSS and just go with carbide?
And will the 4140 Knurl OK ? What a knurling tools made from ?
