With cast iron and straight edges being pretty scarce round these parts, maybe making them from steel really can be an option. Here are two vids from the same channel that I found very interesting. One is about the carbide scraper geometry to overcome the common pitfalls of scraping steel (I've never done it). The other is a general serious of hints re the creation of a steel straight edge. Fascinating stuff IMO.
