Thanks for the email link. The Omega website has never worked for me. Maybe its the computer I'm using or maybe its only good in Australia. Does the Omega/Stubby website actually exist?

AUD$5600 for S750
AUD$6800 for S1000

Compared to:
USA$4650 for S750
USA$5500 for S1000

Glad I could be of a help, Russell. Quite a price difference there, but I suppose you have to factor in things like shipping etc.

As a exporter to the US I can say that sea freight on those lathes could cost around A$400 including insurance and documentation.

This would make the 750 worth around around US$3,000 and the 1000 around $3,600 even less for both as there would be no Australian GST included on the price and my figure of A$400 is for a cubic metre (or 1 ton) they should be a lot less than that.

Real good buying I would reckon.

Graeme at Southern Woodturning quoted AUD$800 shipping to Los Angeles. Then I figure another $300 US dollars shipping to Iowa. So figure $700 US dollars total shipping from Australia.

Not sure on the Stubby quotes if they included the sales tax (GST) or not. The quote on the Vicmarc he gave me, and available at his website, is without the GST.

Before shipping, the costs of the Vicmarc and Stubby are roughly 40% less from Australia. With shipping, it works out to about 20-25% less than from the US distributors. I would still have to pay part of the shipping from the US distributor to my house if ordered from the US source. So shipping extra is only the Australia to the port of entry.

The shipping price of around A$400 should be to your door. We ship 1 cubic metre (around 700kg) to Philladelphia. The port of entry is LA, it is then road freighted to Phily. That price also includes A$80 worth of documentation. Insurance would be another A$75 or there abouts. Our shipping agent is Expeditors International, they probably have an agent or office near you. Give them a call and see for yourself.
