Got a set of oars that badly need some TLC.The woodwork is good but the finish? needs a lot of attention. After sanding the crud off, what do i use as a repellant against u/v and salt water? Danish oil? linseed oil? Any advice would be appreciated...........AL

My very favourite, two or three coats of Epoxy with UV inhibitor, three or more coats of spar varnish, oil only to the hand grip bit.

Or just paint them with a good quality marine enamel?

cheers,

P

For a working pair of oars, why not just give them a good sand, and whack it on?

Leave the handles oiled still, they're nicer to use that way.

Cheers,

Sounds the way to go.Sorry, meant to say that the said oars were for practical purpose, not decorative, and yes,i get the reasoning about the handles............AL
