G'day all,

I am installing a Handrail, single piece of Blackbutt 70mm x 45mm x 5m or so (rough dimensions), into a recessed niche in the wall. My plan is to simply lay it down on the bottom of said niche and somehow attach it into the Timber frame beneath the gyprock. LED lighting up the backside of the rail.

This is where my question comes in. Is there a product already out there whereby you install some sort of bracket and then slide the railing onto said bracket and tighten it up with a sneaky grub screw? Trying to avoid sending in skewed screws through the side of the timber rail.

If yes, what would it be called and does anyone have a link to where one could be purchased (manufacturer)??

Thanks in advance legends

In 60 odd yrs of building never seen or heard of one.
How about these Lag Screw - United Fasteners (https://www.unitedfasteners.com.au/products/fasteners-fixings/fastening-hardware/lag-screw/lag-screw) and just drill hole in the bottom of the handrail and use epoxy to fix timber them, a simple dress sleeve of aluminium cut to length to hide exposed tread between rail and gyprock

Not necessarily this one but you could look for a suitable similar style product

Australian building regs say you have to have a 50mm gap below/behind the handrail and 600mm clearance above last time I checked anyway. Just sayin'

I had to fix some ironbark step treads sills and I just bored a hole, then screwed through to joist, then used a plug cutter and made a plug from an offcut and glued in the hole. Made sure I aligned the grain. Can't see it for looking.

How is the gyprock finished? is there a corner bead? You need to be careful, make sure its set square, and the plasterboard is not packed.

+1 for Lag Bolts. Use a pair of lock nuts on the metal thread to allow a spanner to be used to insert the timber threaded end of bolt into a hole in the timber frame below. Remove nuts, mark bolt positions on underside of hand rail and use epoxy to fasten threaded section of bolt into hole in underside of hand rail.

For good reason.
