I'm narrowing down choices for a new lathe, but I wonder whether I need one that can cut threads?

I have several sets, and various odds and ends, of taps and dies in various metric and imperial forms which so far have cut threads on the rare occasions I can't buy one off the shelf as threaded rod or cutting down a bolt. Most of these taps and dies have yet to cut anything I need.

Cutting threads wasn't on my list of things I thought I might do with a lathe and still isn't, and I can't see why it should be.

Or am I missing something, such as perhaps the need to make threads for things I can make on the lathe which would otherwise not be available?
