Fan Question

So my PC is begging for a rebuild - to boot the thing I have to take the side off the case and blast the CPU with my Makita blower to get past a spurious CPU over temp error that blocks boot up.

Plan is m/board, CPU, power supply and case fans - re-using ram, graphics card, HD's & case.
The plan is two 140mm & two 120mm fans -the case will let me put 120's front & rear and two 140's on top.
Do I have them sucking air out or pulling air in to the case or a mix.
Also, should I put filters on the fans?

Flow should be through the case, usual is in at the front and out at the back.
Unless you are building an extreme unit with multiple CPU's, graphics cards and large amounts of ram a single fan front and rear should be more than enough.

Filters on inlet fans can help in dirty environments but will block airflow if you allow them to get blocked. No use on exhaust fans.

Have you checked if the ram is compatible with the new motherboard ?

it might help to post your current specs before offering advice on upgrades

regards to the cooling:

you'll probably find its the thermal paste (there's a thin spread of goo between the fans and the CPU to help with contact area on the heat sink of the cpu cooler) after long periods of time the stuff goes hard and doesn't work well. re-applying with some fresh paste may help alleviate the problem, Its also pretty cheap so an easy place to start. I would be looking at quite running high air flow fans, all modern mobo's should allow you to hook these up to the PWM ports and control the RPM and set temperature points for them to speed up and slow down. this should help with keeping it fairly quite as the more fans the more noise your going to have. Your case will also determine how hot some things runs. I wouldn't stress too much about the fan orientation, but as mentioned above its normally suck in through the front and blow out the top or back but usually its just what ever is easiest.

The CPU in my EV has a liquid coolant loop going tru it.
