Hi All, total newbie, posted in the say hi section but the old lathe deserves her own place to seek all your help and wisdom.
Have started cleaning up the old Shenwai 350 lathe, under the years of oil and grease there is a lathe :). Seems to be cleaning up ok but the old paint has soaked up a lot of those oils and is flaking off or very chalky. No biggie but will take some time to clean up properly to be able to give a coat of jam. Is there any special paint I should be using as I was thinking of just using engine block paint (think that's a basic enamel) not painting a masterpiece just protected and functional.

Cut all the steel to make the new beam style bench as the current legs are far too light for the weight that it is supporting. Once I get that built and lathe into place I will be a lot happier about working on her and doing the basic strip down. Found a good like new engine crane on marketplace to make moving everything a lot easier and safer.

Might have to build a bigger shed if I keep finding things on marketplace :cool:
