View Full Version : Sending Bowls Overseas

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question, is there any problems with customs (be it here or there) with sending bowls overseas, primarily to the US? I have some friends in America who would like some bowls from me, more due to the fact it would be Australian wood coming from Australia than due to any talent of mine though. I’m worried about them ending up in a customs black hole, especially when you just know that some customs officer would adorn their shelf with a new bowl, albeit a very badly turned one…

So does anyone have any comments?

There is no problem sending Aussie wood overseas as finished items. Different kettle of fish for raw timber.

Glenn,
Recently went through the process of sending a sign o/seas, and after many enquiries to customs, Aqis, freight companies, freight forwarders, etc, and the frightening array of charges they are able to 'justify', we decided to use Australia Post! My suggestion is to use them and there is a relatively new system whereby you can obtain a number from AP so the parcel can be traced at any time.
The delivery was prompt (10 days), and there were no hassles, save a form declaring there was no explosive in the parcel. Check out the Auspost website. Good luck - with both of your projects...

Hi Bob, thanks for that.

I actually sell caps to Americans at the moment and I have been seeing standard air mail via Australia Post get from Canberra to locations in America in less than 6 days. My bowls aren't good enough to justify any special type of delivery and if it gets lost, I'll just make another one http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/biggrin.gif
