Ok here are some of the most recent pens to leave the lathe .... many of which have a connection with this forum.

The pen kits are Americana Classic from Carroll's Woodcraft Supplies (http://au.store.yahoo.com/cws-store/amclaspen.html)
The first pen is fiddle back redgum that I purchased off Ozwinner in the form of old fence posts.
The second pen is Myrtle burl which Tasman through in as a small offcut when I purchased the Blackwood for my table last year.
The last pen is Bicote, or that is what was written on it when I purchased it, which I had lying around for years as I didn't know what to do with it.

The finish is CA (Superglue) ...... it seems to work well.

The pen rest is a piece of acient timber, hundereds of years old from Bethlehem. I got it off my Grandfather following his death last year. He did tell me the complete story however I am too stupid to have taken the information on board.

Ok here is the desk set that I was asked to make as a gift for a coin collector.
Not really my cup of tea but it seems to have worked out ok.

The coins are 1x 1960 Florin (large one) and 2x 2005 World War 1939-1945 Peace $1, one face up one queen up.

The timber: Al's fiddleback redgum and camphor laurel.
Trumpets and pen parts by Carroll's Woodcraft Supplies.
When in Geelong Stinky chooses to stay at home.

Jim .....
I am still playing around with the photo setup. After reading some articles on penturners.org I went to Lincraft and purchased some white material and have been using that with two desk lamps. It can be just as adictive as pen turning trying to get the right shot.

Did you have any luck tracking down replacement tubes for the Americana style pens? My closest match was Tates Toy Kingdom in Shanon Ave ..... they had almost every size of brass tube except the one I needed. I did manage to pick up some plastic tube that was an identical inside diameter but I think it will have too much flex ..... I can only try. :)
