I started making wooden wristwatches in November '04 as Christmas presents. http://tinyurl.com/fqdr3
My best count is that I've now made over 30 of these. Whilst each one is a challenge, and I try to make each one a little different, I have long thought that it would be nice to have a presentation box for these watches.
So yesterday and today, I knocked one together.
The box timber is Celery Top Pine, and the veneered inset panel is more of that American Walnut I have. The wristwatch is Tassie Oak and River Redgum.
I've yet to apply a finish to the box.

Stunning Don!
That American Walnut is beautiful - and so is the presentation box.
Quick Q: Where did you get that brassware from?

The hinges come from Veneer Inlay Australia. http://tinyurl.com/pd56n (http://tinyurl.com/pd56n)
The press clasp comes from Bunnings. The quality is suspect, but it seems to suit the application.

Both watch and box are great Don and the recipient should be very happy. How did you do the splines?:)

The current issue of Shop Notes has step-by-step instructions on making splined mitre joints. I've attempted this before, but not until I following these instructions did they come out perfect.
If you want, I could PM the article to you. Send me a PM with your email address if you want the article.:)

Nice work Don. I can’t believe you can make a box in 2 days.
Then again it is quite possible for a full time woodworker.

Thanks for the Shopnotes article on doing mitred splines Don .:) Because I could'nt see the splines in the lid , I had thought you had used a jig setup
using a router so that you could have a stop end at the lid . How did you achieve this with the Shopnotes technique

Well, you got me on this one, Peter. If you look closely, you will see where the cut for the splines exited the top of the box. Actually, this 'star-shaped' pattern at each corner looks intentional so I don't think it detracts from the look.
Here's a close-up that also reveals a fairly sloppy mitre, though this is very exaggerated in the blow-up of the photo.:o
