I wrote up my compressed fibre and resin technique and submitted it to the penturners forum (www.penturners.org (http://www.penturners.org)). Well, actually, I was asked to write it up in PDF format for them. It can be found here in an easy to download and print format:

(I even managed to get in a plug for UBeaut EEE :D ).

Thanks!

But I am not sure that I belong in the same company as most people who have submitted articles there. I mean, I have only been turning for about 6 months or so... :D

Anyway, I can't complain.

hey cam, nice write up. very thorough.
i notice that you mentioned making some with polyester resin as well, i tried this a little while ago and when it was done it just didnt seem quite as hard as meal mircarta. im not sure if this was the resin or maybe i didnt use enough. have you ever had any problems like this? im not saying it is bendable or anything like that, its just easier to mark.

also when it is still rough like 80 grit or so. does yours feel a little fluffy. this also makes me think that theres not enough resin.

thanks for any help,
brett

Yep, not enough resin.

I has to be absolutely soaked. My stuff is stupidly hard.

When I sand it also has a perfectly smooth finish.
