Queens Birthday weekend

If you are anywhere near FNQ that weekend, look me up.

The event is on at the Tinaroo Sailing Club Black Gully Road, Tinaroo.

It is on all weekend.
I'll be there Saturday & Sunday. (Camping the night)

Some pics.

The lead boat is a Gwen 12 about 42 or 43 years old.
The 3 following boats were all made by Peter Jones (standing in 1st pic), the last one is his new Geodesic Aerolite (side on in 3rd pic).

Here is another shot of us heading out on the Saturday morning.

We found that having Paul in the Aerolite as a 'drogue' did not work well 'cos it sat slightly nose down & would not 'follow the leader'

When we came home, we had him in the back of the dinghy so it was nose up & it followed much better.

Hi Cliff,
Looks like you all had a lot of fun! So that's what a full dam looks like:cool:

That Geodesic thingy looks just like the sort of project I should stay well away from ... particularly when it's someone elses  What'd he cover it with?

Looks like the weather was dreadful

Sods.:D

The sequence consists of building a simple rugged wood framework, braced with triangulated KEVLARŪ roving strands. This tough basket-like frame is then covered with Dacron. This is a first cousin to sail cloth; except it heat shrinks.
All glued on, then ironed  yes ironed so the Dacron shrinks.

Then has 2 coats of water based PU to waterproof it.

More details here.

Pete's version weight 7.5Kgs.
It won the 'Best Boat' prize for the weekend.

Yeap, dam is full. :D

Weather looks worse than what it was, we were scratching for a breeze a couple of times & then busy as a one armed paper hanger at others.
I was up the front & got very good at flicking the jib off & draging it on the other side to go about one handed while holding 2 beers in the other hand.
I sat in front of the mast so I didn't have to duck the boom. ;)

I scored a T shirt with this on it.

Neither, I am just going to wear the shirt. :D

'Twas actually Ratty's quote.
