Hi all. This box was made out of a banksia tree that was damaged during a wind storm. The piece of timber selected was cut into small slabs with which I seasoned for two years.Jarrah and Myrtle veneer was also used.

Nice work, from the one image you've provided it is apparent that there has been alot of care and attention to detail put into the making, well done!

Good one Wardy. Doesn't the banksia come up well. I'm just about finished one that I started a while ago (see WIP). I was warned that the wood would twist, split etc. but it survived the drying process OK. Wish I had more of it.

Are those miter keys in the corners of the lid? Very nicely detailed box.

Yes ,they are mitre keys, for strength and also decoration, adds a little bit more to the image of the box

Well done Wardy. How hard was the banksia to work with? There have been some bad reports on past efforts.

I found it not too hard to work, good to sand but there was some tearout using the thicknesser,(maybe the blades need a touchup)
