Found Site for Omega (Stubby Lathes)

Hi Everyone,

A while back I was inquiring about Omega and their Stubby Lathes site and was given the address of the owner of the company, it helped quite a lot as I now have the adress of their fairly new web site:

I thank you very much, this site, the owner and a fellow woodturner here in Canada helped me make a decision for my next lathe, the General 26020 is now gone and the Delta Midi lathe is going to be used fully to let me pass the time waiting for the new lathe...

Thanks for the kind words for the site, I try to help the way I know and I am learning the rest, hee, hee.

Dave, I went for the Stubby 750 with the 39" possibility for spindle turning. I like making hollow forms and was having much more back problems than I used to while sitting on the General Lathe "à la D.Ellsworth" so I opted for a shorter bed. If I would have bought a short bed lathe and installed the extension for spindle work then you don't remove the extension for the odd hollow form... If I would have had a not so limited budget I could of opted for the 2436 Oneway with the extension for the left side ;-)

I'll keep you posted on the lathe...

Hi Jean,

That's great!! I have not had the chance to turn on one, but have seen them at the AAW symposiums several times. It looks like a great machine. And it seems that it was designed by someone who is a woodturner. Everything about it is so well thought out.

If you want to know more about the Omega Stubby 750 buy yourself a copy, or even better subscribe, to that wonderful British magazine 'Woodturning'. There is a review of the Stubby by some British turner called Terry Porter in Issue 114, August 2002.

You Aussies make some pretty good lathes. I really liked the Stubby and also the Vicmarc 175. (Woodturning Issue 112)

I am doing my best to find the mag but it doesn't seem to ba available anywhere in Quebec... I want to become a member as soon as I can clear the mortgage on the house to pay for the Stubby, hee, hee. ;-)
