I need to be able to mount a compound slide on my lathe bed. (see attached photo of the version Vermec supplies with his thread cutting attachment).

I want to do something similar. I need to be able to mount a turned object on the lathe, then put the piece in a fixed position using the indexed head. Then, mount a trimmer or drill in a holder bolted to the compound slide. When that is done I can use the slide to move the trimmer about the piece as required. Effectively motions similar to a milling machine, or metalwork lathe.

Has anyone else done this? If so, do you have pictures of your setup? Where's the best place to source an accurate compound slide that I could use?

Edit: I found this one on Hare & Forbes website. (down the bottom one the left hand side)

anyone suggest anything better, or comments on this one?

Ian, all I know is that when it comes to equipment like this Enzo is the guy to go to for this type of engineering. Enzo is a mathematical engineer and his wife has a drafting and engineering background. I know it is a lot of dollars but it is money well spent. I have the deep hollowing system and it is a beauty.

I'm sure I've seen a home-made version of this somewhere on the web. If memory serves, it might have been a small plunge router mounted on a jig of sorts. Sorry I can't be more specific.
