My Dh and I were given some wood

Mango, African Mahogany and .... the third one we have no idea - it has a bark rather like cork and deeply ridged with depth varying from 3 mm to about 25 mm, the wood is very white.

Any ideas?

I will try to attach a photo to aid you

Jenny if it was in the SW USA, I'd think it was cottonwood. But from Australia, I have no idea. You folks have some wonderful wood down there.

Jenny - If it's as white as the 'tusks' on this thread (http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/showthread.php?p=306333#post306333), it might be Norfolk Island Hibiscus or something similar. The bark sounds about right.:D

Could be milkwood (alstonia actinophylla). This tree is spread across the Top End including the Kununurra area. Is the wood soft?

Looks like Corkwood which I believe is a protected species.

Looks like corkwood to me too.

Where did it come from Jenny? Can't say I've ever seen it around Kunna, but quite a bit down Alice way. Travelling timber man?

A local caravan park was trimming/thinning their trees - it could have been a import as a lot of the trees in kununurra are from elsewhere (eg: sausage tree and African Mahogany from --- Africa)
