I was having some belt squeak and some other noises coming from my Nova 3000. I was using the old soap method of reducing the squeak, it worked but the squeak kept coming back after a while. I got some CRC Belt Grip from Super Cheap (car accessories retailer). It's a aerosol belt treatment, it's clear and it works very well. The Lathe is quieter than ever. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/biggrin.gif

G'day Lance

Those of us in the know use brake fluid. It works extremely well and does not damage to the belt or pulleys etc.

I have mine in a small glass bottle with a spray atomizer. Fits neatly in a small compartment in the tool box and goes everywhere the lathe goes. Wouldn't be without it.

The brainchild of Ron Day, the Australian Teknatool Service genius.

I thought you just used earplugs Neil, or is that a vicious rumour generated by the opposition. http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/wink.gif

I thought I had belt squeak, but it was just my stomach rumbling!

Maybe I'm just showing my age but my experience with brake fluid is that whenever I spilt it all over the engine compartment of the old Hillman Husky it lifted the paint and encouraged rust (not that the rust in the old HH needed much encouragement!). Is brake fluid still like that? If so, why would you want it spraying around your lathe? Or, is my memory as clapped out as the old HH was (and, therefore, it wasn't actually brake fluid I was splashing around the engine compartment)?

Gooday,

They took the paint stripping effect out of brake fluid a while ago.

Vandals with a grudge against car yards caused that.
