Constructing a wood lathe

Has anyone had a go at building there own wood lathe? I have searched some posts,but not much info has come up.Its for a mate of mine,doesnt have to be that flash.As a bonus,he has his own metal lathe.Any info would be greatful.Regards......Al

seems like a lot of work, to get it correct. Could be done, but considering the engineering needed to be done to get your centres correct and make sure it is torsionally rigid. Probably easier to get an off the shelf. There are plans available on the net (Let google be your friend here)

That being said, if you were thinking of making a mega lathe, then our illustrious benefactor should be able to help there. Also if all you wanted to do was faceplate turning, then a modified floor mounted disk sander may be what you are thinking, this may work cant say, never tried.
