Hi,

Still early days - need to add a few feet to the garage before actual building starts - but I am starting to budget, plan, tool up, etc.

So, if anyone knows good marine ply suppliers in Melbourne - or even country Vic not too far from the city - then I'd appreciate the referrals. specially if they sell decoritively-faced (ie nice wood) ply that can be used for final planking, as well as the standard stuff for frames.

Thanks,
Darren

Marine Timbers have probably been doing it longer than anyone else in the country.

They used to be nice blokes to deal with (I haven't had any reason to contact them for a few years), and they are geared to send stuff anywhere as well.

Cheers,

P

Thanks Mik. A quick peruse of the website and I think I've found my supplier :D

Will let you know if they're still nice blokes - always makes the transaction easier!

Regards,
Darren

Have had a few deliveries issues with Marine Timbers, 1st order - 6 weeks, 2nd order - 3 weeks. Got some ply from Boatcraft Pacific in Queensland - 3 days and only 10 bucks more in freight, this is all in the last 6 months. The materials ordered were in stock on the shelves, so waiting on stock wasn't the issue. Would hate to be a pro builder waiting on stock. I will use them again, but they need to give a little more attention to customer service. Anyway thats my whinge. I'm a new member of the forum, look forward to more positive discussions.

I found Melboard in Hallam busy but OK. They usually carry stock of Marine Ply.

Australian Plywoods in Lyndhurst are probably the single best supplier around - nominally a commercial supplier, but will sell over-the-counter to anyone & will deliver anywhere. I used them for years when building boats on a semi-commercial basis & they were faultless.

Have experienced problems with Marine Timbers, similar to above, but they are usually pretty good - just not that cheap.
