Oz fretwork designs ?

Is anybody aware of any australian flora/fauna fretwork designs available.
With the growing advent of the scrollsaw medium I wonder whether there is an outlet with Oz patterns petaining to the above?

Johnno, latest Australian Woodsmith has some patterns for book ends with fauna and, God Forbid, a bloody pineapple. I have seen a lot (Aus) of native fauna for sale in USA catalogues but I am not too sure about localally designed patterns. Tom Manly may have some clues, give him a shout on his email which I cannot find, it will be in this post somewhere!
I do a lot of scrollsaw work and I cut out leaves (relief) in the same species of timber and sell them in regional galleries.......I might add that I don't get rich doing it.
Back to the bookends with the pineapple, you could try upsetting the Queenslsanders with a scroll sawn banana.
Another thought is, a bloke in Qld who has intarsia patterns, I have got some and if you wish I will ferrett around and find his name, let me know. He also has a small book on intarsia.

Thanks Iain,I was interested in the patterns as I am contemplating putting an Oz flavour in a grandfather clock I want to build.
I haven't checked out the shops in Perth yet but will do soon.
If bozo has a wind problem maybe he's trying to pass a cat(tiddles)and he's gone off.

,kids colouring books can also be a good scource of ideas but beware of copyright if you intend selling your work.

I dont have a scrollsaw, but have one on my wish list. Just a question on what method you use to transfer your patterns onto the piece of wood you are working on, is there anything better than using tracing papaer?

Brett, Yes.
Sand down the piece you want to cut and clean it, no dust. Photocopy the pattern and give a spray with aerosol contact adhesive (used for sticking paper to whatever), wait till it's touch dry and stick to the wood.
Drill your starter holes and when you have finished cutting the whole lot (well almost) just peels off. Do your internal cuts first before you start any externals and that way you won't have them straying into each other.

Try checking books of stained glass patterns. I've found one of oz birds (feathered variety) useful for scroll saw patterns, and there are others of fauna & flora.

I use the method described above for transferring the pattern.

John, this will give you some free downloads to use in conjunction with your scanner/digital camera and one of the edit functions is relief which I have used for patterns. It is a starting point to creating your own patterns.
