Thought you might like this.
A little while ago, someone asked me if I could make a coffee table for him. I said yes and asked what timber he wanted, expecting Jarrah, Red Gum, etc and hepointed to this. The original seating boards from the MCG outer. I was a touch taken aback, I mean how do you deal with history?
It took some time for my simple mind to decide how to keep the character of the wood, but make it a useable table. Hope you like it. As someone said to me "Just imagine how many bums have f***ted on them!!
Also, I thought it would be a good idea to make another and give it to one of the TV stations to get signatures from Cricketers and footballers on it then auction it for charity, but I haven't had much interest.

That is a really good piece well thought out. So far as signatures go if you contact the footy clubs and Cricket Australia you should be able to make some progress. Here in Adelaide I did a similar thing a couple of years ago. The Crows were great and the Power too slack to even give me a call back to say they wouldn't.
So anyhow maybe you should make some phone calls and see who will help. The thing to do with TV stations is they aren't going to do anything that is work for them or doesn't get on air. What I would do is make sure you have a good number of International Cricketers on it. Past and Present. Have to try for Warne, and getting the Waugh's would be great. Oldies such as Lillee Marsh and Chappell would be good too. (This is going somewhere OK) Those guys were playing when people were sitting on those boards. I wouldn't get too fussed about getting a million footballers to sign it. Ones that spring to mind are those who have been something to the history of the place. Andrew McLeod with two Coleman medals springs to mind, OK I am from Adelaide, Gary Ayers also. Dipierdimenico,Wayne Carey, Kevin Sheedy Jezza don't miss the ones that people know from now like Voss Picket and so on.
Get photos of them signing the thing and do a short resume for each on the back of the photo.
Pick a popular charity, put it on eBay, then call the news number at the TV and Radio Stations and you might get a 15 or 30 second aside in a news bulletin. If there is a good angle on the charity you might be able to get them on one of the current affairs shows.

Well I would buy one if you were interested in selling 'em. What about getting signatures from players who wore those numbers?

Studley 2436 4th July 2006, 01:51 AM You'll be amazed if you ring around the clubs and when they pick up the phone say this is what I have done and this is what I want to do, who can I speak with they will generally be happy to go in. The clubs need to look after the people around the place and publicity is always good too.

And well done Rob, its terrific you kept the integrity in the design by not stripping the timber of its history. I won't be making and selling these as the 'G is part of Victorian history and not mine to sell. If anyone wants the supplier, let me know.
Just to clarify Lignum, you are talking about timber from the Vic Park stands and not the Chief Executive...Right?
