Hello , I'm trying to make a carving knife for myself with this blade [ the beveled point one ]
and attach it to the handel with these rivits [ 6mm x 10mm pack ] (http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/page.aspx?c=1&p=40386&cat=3,41306,41327). How would I use them to attach the handel to the blade? My guesse would be to tape together the whole thing and then drill two holes, one 6mm through , and two 10mm to sink the heads in then just press the rivits together to seal it . Is my guesse right or is there another way of using rivits?

Thanks for your help , Kristian

I believe you have described exactly how it would be done - they appear to be a force fit, done possible with a vice. if you drilled the countersink, so as to leave the heads slightly proud, you could then file/sand them flush so they are a perfectly smooth finish on the handle.

Only by looking at them I would suggest that the necked section on the smaller unit will mushroom inside and lock when pressed or tapped together, so if shortening , shorten the larger unit:rolleyes:

Can I ask question here? This is a copy of the price list for rivets. Are they $7.50 a box (50) or $7.50 each rivet?

Sold as 50 sets of rivets.

We use a similar type of rivet for our horse gear when it gets broken except they are copper.
The rivet is tapered for a1/4" or so then a copper washer is fittet and needs to be pressed over the taper, the excess is then trimmed off and the end rounded over with a ball pein hammer.
I would suggest the price is per 50 as we pay about $35 a box or 50c each (there are 100 or so in a box).
Skew Chidam bought some proper knive rivets recently in Melbourne but not sure where from.
Have a look at a saddlery shop and see if the copper rivets will do the job as freight from USA is going to be a killer.
