hi, this is a bit a test run to learn how to post pics,so hopefully it will turn out ok. the pics are of a goblet i tuned a few years back, timber used is sandpaper fig,rough dimensions are 175mm H, 100mm bowl dia.,5mm bowl thickness, 75mm foot dia. finish is 3 coats of penetrol, and 2 coats of hut penturners wax

not sure of the proper name for it, everyone i know of calls it sandpaper fig because the leaves feel like sandpaper, also gets small red berries on it. i used to live in weipa fn.qld, where it grew to sizes of 250-300mm trunk diameter. here at my property near mackay qld. i have a few smaller ones growing. not sure how far south they grow. the timber has very narrow growth rings, so i would imagine it takes many years to grow to a decent size. the goblet i turned straight away after recieving the timber (still green). i cut the rest into turning blanks, but after a while fungas turned it to a muddy grey/blue, which was a shame

ohhh i know that tree i was up in weipa about a month ago and saw that stuff..
Who would have known how nice the timber was tho...!!!!
