Fantastic - it really came up well didn't it? The grain makes marble look pretty ordinary.

Those custom made grips look comfortable, and I've often wondered how you decide/make on the shape. I've had a few goes at it myself for a few tools that I use and I never have any success. I think that maybe its one of those black arts!

That is absolutely beautiful timber, and well shaped and finished too.

Where's this timber come from? Oz? Is it commercialy available?

I made some for a handgun once. Get a lump of plasticene, mould it around the steel skeleton of the grip, grab hold and squeeze till it feels comfortable. There's your model. It is an art tho, mine turned out nothing like Bubba's, but they beat the plastic grips the thing came with.

Desert Ironwood is rare and protected. It grows in the Southwest USA. This customer sent me the blocks to make the grips, and I would estimate that the wood cost him around $100.

Thanks for the compliments,
Rick

Btw. Did you hand carve or use some sort of power tool to do this. Just curious

WOW.....that work is amazing. i've never seen anything like that.

curves like that speak to me. they say things like..

"go ahead. wrap your hand around me. i know you want to."
and then .." nah-nah, you can look, but you can't touch."
and finally.. it shouts.. " i bet you want to try to make something like this, just as cool. good luck!"

beautiful job, sir..
