Belt Adjustment - DP?

I recently bought a Drill Press (DP) and changing drill speed means retensioning belts. I seem to remember from my high school car maintenance days, standard belts should be able to be be pushed inward by hand about the distance of one belt thickness.

What's the general advice these days for belts used in DPs?
