Gil Jones 4th August 2006, 09:26 AM This natural edge, Bradford Pear bowl is 3.5" hi by 4.75" wide. It was turned from a piece of green wood to about 1/16" wall, and finished with two coats of lacquer sanding sealer, smoothed out with 0000 steel wool, one coat of MinWax Paste Wax, and lightly buffed. All of the turning and finishing was done in one session. No cracks or visible warping. The Bradford Pear tree was blown down during the 2004 hurricane named Charley.

Gil,
Well done, 1/16" thats a fine piece of turning. The natural edge sets it off well and counters the paleness of the bowl body.
At that thickness the lacquer would penetrate right through and stabilize the bowl.
Farnk 4th August 2006, 12:46 PM Gil,
That's a sweet piece of work, well done.
TTIT 4th August 2006, 04:44 PM Lovely piece Gil :D - always a buzz to finish something that fine isn't it! :) Now you'll have to do as I do and pray the bark hangs in there!

John Saxton 4th August 2006, 10:34 PM Very Nice GIL, you've got a symmetrical look on that bowl.
Cheers:)
OGYT 5th August 2006, 08:57 AM Hard job well done, Gil. I don't see how you guys can get a bowl, or a hollow form either, that thin. They break apart on me.
Gil Jones 5th August 2006, 12:20 PM Thanks to you all for the kind comments!
I agree that it is a good feeling to turn one thin without an explosion, and do I try to keep the inside a bit smaller than the outside. The bark will probably stay on OK, as I wet the bark with thin CA glue at about 3/16" thickness. Bradford Pear wood (green) is a joy to turn.

Gil,
A few of times I have forgotten that rule..............:D
