Hi just thought i would post some pics of a peice of Red Malley??? Burl that i carved on the weekend.

My husband and i went to Brads Burls on Saturday in Sydney and bought some Burl timbe for me to carve. I knew the timber would be nice but id didnt think it would be this nice. The photo's dont do the timber justice and you cant see the dtail in the dark red timber. But i just like looking at the timber.

The carving is probably 60cm and is all hand carved and then smoothed over a little with a delta sander.

Cheers,
Lisa. :D

The last photo is after the oil had soaked in and needed another coat.

G'day & welcome.

Nice work, do you have any photos of the blank before you started?

Also, tell us about the box that it is sitting on & the tools lying next to it.

I'm a woodturner but I have a few old boxes similar to that one, does it have a story?

Here is a photo of the timber before I got hold of it when it was still covered in bark.

The timber box we recently got from my Husbands Mothers house. It was his Dads tool box and it has in it all his Dads old tools that we are going to clean up and use and put some of the old planes on display. They have been sitting out in the shed for the last 19 years so they need a bit of a clean. But some great old stuff in there.

Cheers Lisa.

Wow, it looks just like a pile of dirt on the floor... you've done well to turn it into the result... does he/she/it have a name yet?

Nice floor.

Good to see the box & tools are staying in the family.

PS. Can we have a closer look at the figures in your Avatar?

Here is a larger photo of my avatar, the lighter ones are balsa wood whittled away with a stanley knife. I can usually finish one within half a day as they dont have a lot of detail and the others are carved pine.

Well done - it looks like a piece of inspired art work. What a terrific result you have made. The wood looks really stunning too.
Thanks for posting such interesting work.
