Have reinstated this forum to see if we get a few of the Ornamental folk involved. Will give it a 6 months trial and see what happens.

Mike Darlow has a bit about ornamental turning in his latest book"Woodturning Methods". But I tend to agree with Stoppers.

5 years and still no elucidation. Bats in the Belfry, but no elucidation.

Let's see if I've got this right: ornamental turning involves the use of "asymetrical" lathes (either the shaft or a cammed tool) to result in an asymetrical turning on more than one axis?

I gather chatter-work & "oval" boxes don't count? Are barley-twists considered ornamental turning?

The difference??? "good ole normal turning" starts with a "G"
"ornamental turning" starts with "O"...therefore
"G" comes before "O" in my dictionary
SSsoooo....since the "good ole normal turning" comes first.....Need I say more??

Lets start with the similarities....
