No nothing I've made, but a few years back there was a post (I thought it was located in the "Inspirational Sites" forum) where a fabulous box was shown. It was made by an Aussie and was featured on a site with many other beautiful woodworking pieces. I recall that there was a 'circle-shaped' feature on the front of the box which may have had doors which opened to reveal drawers - getting old, can't quite remember the detail, but I do remember that we were all very impressed with the design and quality of this impressive small box. Was it a commissioned piece for a US client? Honey coloured.

Well that's all the clues I can remember - I hope you can remember more and provide me a link to the web site with a picture of this item.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to work by a bloke called Dave in Malanda, who has logged onto this bb under that name.

Don, i didnt see that particular box you are talking about, but it sounds like a Peter Cook box from W.A.

As soon as I saw the thread title, I knew exactly which box Don was talking about. It is an amazing piece of work. I wonder what Dave is up to? Unfortunately the link is dead and there is no sign of the box at http://www.australianwoodart.com/

This (http://www.woodezine.com/05_2005/0505_news1.html) is the only picture I could find of it. All the other links I found have gone.

Yep, that's the one. Seems no one knows what's happened to Dave. Man, what talent - pitty if he's no longer with us (if you know what I mean).

Here's another picture on this site.

I remember it as shown here. http://tinyurl.com/hmn32 (http://www.woodworking.org/hopechest.html)

That must be a massive box if he can fit inside:eek:

That's why he went for wooden hinges- only way to get the hinges to look to scale! :p

I was speaking to a revegetation coordinator this morning, as I know he was involved in some private forestry/furniture making on the tablelands a few years ago. I asked him if he knew Dave in Malanda and what had happened to him. Turns out he knew him quite well and used to drop in to his workshop. Apparently Dave had a rather nasty breakup with his missus. He's moved down to Cairns and is working for a cabinetmaker, 6 days a week, knocking up kitchens.

Man, wouldn't you love to have one of his kitchens? Can you imagine what they would look like with all those hand-made hinges?:D
