View Full Version : Broken toolrest

Hi guys,

I finally got around to working on that rolling pin that SWMBO asked me to make out of redgum. Had it turned down to nicely round and was doing the final shaping when the base of my toolrest sheared clean off! The lathe is a bit of a no-name, so I was wondering what my chances are of finding a new one (hopefully a little more sturdy). The swing over the bed is a little less than 10cm.

Thanks,

Tristan

Tristan, sorry to hear about your mis-fortune, I had the same thing happen to me.
If you can find someone who can weld, you may be better off getting them to weld a new guide(?) to the stem.

By the way, the rest of the redgum is comming up nicely.

I hope you made the rolling pin the CORRECT lenght http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/smile.gif

Of course, everything I do is correct - it's everyone else who's wrong! http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/rolleyes.gif The original toolrest was a bit flimsy, anyway - chattered like anything, especially towards the ends. Thought I might swing by Carba-Tec and see if by any chance the dimensions match one of their lathes.

See you in Melvegas for the WWW show.

Thanks,

Tristan

I bought a cast iron one from woodstock (now Carbatec in perth) a few years ago it was about $40

Have a look the main thing is getting about the right sized washer bit at the bottom to fi between the bed bars of your lathe
