I have seen a video on it. He puts his foot on it, grabs it backhanded and twists and pushes down. Looks easy.

I can usually get them to fold by grabbing them at about 4:00 and 8:00 and frigging around for a few minutes. I never quite know what I did, it just magially spings into position.

I'll have a look at your vid Stuart. :D

Have a look at the Thread headed BS n Blades started by Sculptured Box. In post #4 Tony has a link to "Coiling Bandsaw Blades".

I have described the foot and two handed method at post #7 in that thread. I have no trouble with that method on thinner blades, can't vouche for it working on wider blades. Therefore the garden gloves proviso.

Here you go guys, pictures tell a thousand words.
If the link above doesn't work, try entering the words coiling bandsaw blades video into google.

Cheers,

eddie

(Oh, and if you're working on a large blade, use gloves and watch out for the teeth springing/whipping past your face as it snaps from a single loop into the triple loop - something I was trained all those years ago.)

Yep, do it regularly. My saw blade is just under five metres

It's not coiling the B/S blades that give me any worries - it's uncoiling the beggars without lacerating large portions of the front of me  that gives me grief...

That's easy, just hold the bottom-most loop in one hand and give it all a flick of the wrist towards a vacant section of the shed. Best make sure the shop-dog's not in residence at the time.

Trying to uncoil 'em with two hands is just asking for trouble.

It is pretty easy to express in words. V belts or bandsaw blades, the method's the same, but, in the case of blades, always wear gloves.

Grasp each side of the loop one third of the way along, turn wrists inwards.
Simple as that, but with wide blades use one foot to help it start.

All you "I have space in my shed for these sort of antic" snobs :(

Get a real shed - crammed to the gills and try that sort of trick :p

I have to uncoil mine 2 handed, so halfway through the operation, I can move one loop sideways past the saw bench, then the second loop can fit the gap between the router table and the thicknesser, so then finally as it becomes one big loop it can fit the gap between the bandsaw and the air compressor hoses.

I had to move so much stuff out of the way so I could make the bandsaw blade folding video!

Believe me, there's no floor space free here. Ask Waldo. :D

I've perfected opening my blades by flicking 'em over the triton WC2K... and I usually have to move stuff off that to do so. It makes such a handy small assembly table.

Ever thought of adding a dunny extension? Sounds like it'd double your shop size. :D:p

I always have a large pile of sawdust, I just hold the coiled blade in my hand, and then just lightly throw it into the sawdust from 2 meters away, bandsaw unfolds, with no damage to teeth. Some people might not agree, but there is no damage to the teeth, and it is the fastest way,
