Every now and again I go to Tom's site to see what he is up to and to reset my over inflated opinion of my capabilities.

Have a look at the 'office (http://www.plamann.com/sys-tmpl/ceiling/)' he built in his workshop with a dual groined ceiling, while you're there, have a dekko at his 'desk'.

Maybe his new workshop works (http://www.plamann.com/sys-tmpl/scrapbook2/) will be of interest to you, as will the breakfast booth (http://www.plamann.com/sys-tmpl/booth/) or the high school theatre project (http://www.plamann.com/sys-tmpl/theaterproject/view_all.nhtml).

Fantastic stuff, do yourself a favour and browse the site.

The Plamman site appears to be bandjaxed? I've tried everything except sacrificing small furry things and I can't get in; do remember seeing it a while back though....maybe his subscription ran out?

There is nothing wrong with the links, I tested them after I posted them. Tom's site is either having a problem or he took it down for some reason - probably too many foreigners peeking at his secrets ;) .

The links are all fine...

If there is a god of woodwork then this man is the closest thing I know

Inspirational I am not sure but sure as hell I know where I fit into the scheme of things.

Never say it cant be done, Their are three types of people in this world, their are those that watch it happen, those that wonder what happened and those that make it happen.

I feel so .....insignificant.

Must be a hoax, probably big production company working behind the scenes like those bloody make-over shows.

Must be a hoax, probably big production company working behind the scenes like those bloody make-over shows.Yeh, there's no way they would get those two day make-overs done without a lot of hands and a lot of planning. There's no way you'd get a twenty odd grand extension/renovation done in a couple of days with the number of hands that they show on camera. If they do, then they'd make more money sending them out in the market. Generally, labour and material costs are about equal, so, half a dozen people turning over ten grand a day means that each pair of hands is generating almost a grand a day in labour.
Back on topic, this Plamman dude certainly knows his stuff. I'd imagine that he's in big demand at the high end of the market, and I'm sure that you'd pay a premium for his services. The stuff he produces, especially the compound curved stuff would be very time consuming. I remember a staircase that I built for a client out of stringybark which had a 180 degree return. I had to carve a drop return on the shaped handrail and it took me a whole day to laminate and carve it with an arbortek. It was still cheaper than the quote I got from a staicase company though. They wanted $600 just for the drop return. The finished product was excellent and the client was happy. I wish I'd taken some photos at the time. It's very satisfying to succesfully take on a new challenge that you haven't tried before. :)

Prob hit his bandwidth limit on his isp

tashammer
3rd October 2006, 09:49 PM
The usual response for when a site exceeds it's bandwidth is that the isp posts a similar page to the error 500, but just stating that the site has exceeded its bandwidth.

He may be doing a revamp, but that would normally show an advisory notice.

Hope he wasn't poached, you know like there are webiste domain name harvesters that grab yer name if it just runs out, they register it and then offer it back to you for some ridiculously high price. Swine!

Brett, unfortunately Tom no longer maintains his website. I think he is spending more time on his sound studio and making music nowadays, pity (for us).

Hi -

For sites like this - you can alway use thw "Wayback Machine" here:

http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

You can "recall" lots of good old stuff...

In this case, just enter www.plamann.com into the prompt box, wait for the results, and select the year you want...

Cheers -
