I made this about a year ago for my daughter. I finally got some good pictures of it.

It's made from cherry and imbuya. It's aprox 11.5" x 8" x 5". The finish is wipe-on poly and wax.

Thanks for looking!

Exellent box Stride, this gives me some ideas and inspiration. Just started making the missus a jewellery box today. Had to stop early thought, visit to the doc's and got three stitches. Darn those dovetail joints, not going to let this beat me.

Stride, in my, opinion this is one of the nicest boxes shown in this forum since it was established. The choice of timber is perfect and the proportions are just right. The finish looks great in the photo's. But most importantly, the execution displays an attention to detail that is required of small timber boxes.

I have three questions:

You state that you used a wax finish over the Wipe-On Poly, any detail on this?
With what have you lined the bottom of the tray? I looks like suade.

I'm always interested in the origin of the design - is it yours?

Thank-you for the kind comments.

To answer your questions:

After the wipe-on poly has dried well, I rub out the finish with 0000 steel wool and a slurry I make using the paste wax mixed with mineral spirits. After wiping the piece dry, I apply a coat of wax (I use a product called Antiquax - it's from England, but you can get it here in Canada. Don't know about Australia) and then buff until I get a nice sheen.
the tray is not lined - it must just be the lighting.
yes, the design is mineI'm shopless at the moment - I just moved into a new house. As soon as I'm up and running, I'll be making more boxes. I'll do my best to post pictures when I can. Thanks again, everyone, for the encouraging words!
