G'Day Dennis,

That's a great piece of work. What's it's diameter, and how many hours? :)

Dennis.... I take it you draw the picture then have it cut out on a laser machine? like a cnc machine type thing?

Doesn't quite sound as impressive as "it took me 6 years with a fretsaw and a helluva lot of sticky tape" does it? :D

But the end product is still impressive.

Too right its impressive  ...but I honestly thought he did his work all by hand takes a little something away for me... not enough to make it not be impressive just that totally my work hand made touch I guess  ...aahh well see thats what happens when one assumes somethin eh? ;)

Still and all... great work

It still takes a ton of tape and assembly time, this project took 3 months and over 900 parts. As soon as I said laser, maybe some think you scan a photo into your computer send it to the laser and vala there ya go. The laser is just a means of cutting the wood parts to create the overall piece. Thanks again for the comments.
Realy like seeing photos of other peoples work posted here.

Hey Dennis mate dont take me wrong there I like the finished product... but its sorta sounding like a large jigsaw puzzle... one that you create the picture of then the laser cuts and you fit together... definantly great work but curious about the method is all

mmm so if it took you 3 months to create that one even using a laser to cut it out... gawd!! Id be lookin at 3 flamin years!! :D

Sorry just my warped sence of humor there mate

Given that they fit the modified penplotter with an Exacto knife blade for cutting, i wonder if it could also be used for marquetry?

What sort of thicknesses are we talking about here? i was also wondering about relative movement of the different timbers.

DPerry

The wood is 1/8", movement hasn't beed a problem. The pieces are glued to 12mm 7 ply the glue titebond II is only applied to the substrate then vacumm pressed for about 12 hours. I tried appling glue to the piece and substrate had alot of expansion not the way to go.
