strange odour

G`day guys
I had this strange experience last night in the shed. It happened like this, i recently bought some 80 square dry(very) jarrah for a turning project that only needed 70sq to do so being conservation minded (very tight with a quid) i thought i would slice a 10ml vanier off and make a box or something.The first 6 or 7 1mtre lengths went fine but then it just stopped for some reason?? It was then that this smell sort of waffted by and i though that is not right!
I think i might have done somthing wrong what do you think.
P.S when i turned the light off there was this dull glow from under the saw.

Exspensive stink, when I did it, could not see the wall in my garage,it would not stop smoking, so i put a fan on it
luckily it still works, and use the right blade,and switch off when it gets warm.
