I hate to display my ignorance, but need the following questions regarding bandsaw blades answered. Thanks in advance!

Are bandsaw blades always identified in imperial measurements? If not, is the metric equivalent of a 1/2" blade 12mm, and 3/4" blade 19mm.

What is a skip-tooth blade and a hook-tooth blade?

I think ‘skip tooth’ blades were a variation on the standard blade…every second tooth missing providing a larger gullet to remove more material.

The ‘hook tooth’ blade refers to the hook design of the tooth giving a positive tooth angle and a rounded gullet. As well as improved cutting, blade life is improved. I think cutting requires less pressure from the operator.

Of course blades are available in hook-skip teeth design as well.

I have always purchased blades in metric length and imperial width and never thought much of it.
