It may be of some interest that the whole collection of the Dopyera brothers (the guys who invented the Dobro) is for sale. The above link has the whole incredible catalogue.

So is anyone interested in resonators?

Sure is an interesting collection.

Funny how there can be varying histories about things. The Dopyera's who had been making banjos, were asked by a vaudeville performer, George Beauchamp if they could implement some ideas he had in an attempt to get more volume from the acoustic guitars of the time and it was John Dopyera's refining of these ideas that lead to the original "Tri Cone" guitar in late 1926. By 1928, Beauchamp and the Dopyeras formed the National Corp., but within 12 months the Dopyeras had left National and started the Dobro Manufacturing Co. The other interesting thing is that the steel bodies for the Nationals were being made by Rickenbacker Mfg,. and it was Beauchamp's ideas that eventually led to the (alledgedly) first electric guitars "Rickenbacker Electros".
