Maranti window finish

Hi,

I am double-glazing a window using Maranti. (The timber will be on the inside of the existing window, so not exposed to the weather).

I was intending to paint it, but then thought about oiling it instead. Is there a preferred finish for Maranti?

In my opinion meranti is a low class timber better painted.

We have a quantity of meranti window & door frames in our house which were stained & varnished originaly and now look very shabby.
I am now repianting ,all will be refinished in good quality enamel.

Meranti is very variable a poorous will drink oil.
I recon window I door frames inside or out need all the protection they can get.
As you are double glasing some of the finish may end up between the paynes as such not particularly convienient to refinish so a good job is most important.
