Here is 300mm plate I turned a while ago, just finished it today. It is camphor laurel - I got 20 slices 350mm dia x 30mmthick pieces at an auction for $20 a while back. Was going to make them into clocks, but decided to use up the turquoise I broke up a while ago and make the plate for my mum's birthday - she likes blue.

Right on! I'm gonna find that place to get some more turquoise one of these days, and then I'm gonna try to not crush it so fine.
This really looks good with the larger chunks! :D
Well done!
If Mum ain't happy, send it up over, and we'll get rid of it for ya.:D

I really meant that it looks really deep like looking into the Time Tunnel, an optical illusion.

Some pieces of wood can be looked at for ever and this is one of them.

Lovely how a craftsman can bring out Natures secrets so beautifully.

Got to agree with Tashammer - the impression of depth is amazing.
The more you look the deeper it looks.

Beaut piece.

how did you inlay the turquoise?

mix it with epoxy?

does the turquoise just turn like wood?

Thanks for the comments. Depth must be the photo, certainly flat to the eye up close.

I use Diggers casting resin. The turquoise is too hard to turn as such, even with my good chisels, it even flattens the file:eek: . I use a grinding/sanding bit with the dremmel until flat, then work my way through the grits.
