At the DIY DAN M&G Felder bought us a lovely little over under to play with - it was the 310mm jobbie.
3 knives - disposable, reversable - $75 a set of three thus 6 edges. quick setting no jigs. accurate and fast.
the thicknesser pushes thru at 6m per minute - quite fast but the finish is good. the only issue is the table adjustment wheel could getcha fingers on thin dimensions. I pushed thru 4 9 inch bits of iron bark and it "ATE them up" : very good finish and accurate all around.... Depth of thickessing is 230mm down to 4mm minimum - this is a large capacity that exceeds similar models in other brands by about 50mm.
the tables flip up manually on the change over and are quite heavy cast iron - it takes some physical strength to lift them but they have a safety clip to stop them falling on your fingers once they are up. the dust hood is permanelty attached and simply flips over - to change functions takes about 30 seconds + fence alignment time...
the saftey bar is well built and easy to move - rubber ends to stop scratches and pinching fingers - a nice finishing touch.
the on off switch is in a prominemnt position and the off button is proud of the case and needs to be twisted to allow the machine to be turned on again - a nice safety feature.
an after market micro wheel can be fitted that can increase your thickenssing accuracy to 0.1mm - a nice big dial to read the calibration on.
the machine can take off 5mm per pass - this is good but not as much as some other brands in similar size, however who takes off 5mm at a time
? most of is would take 1 or 2 mm per pass tops.
the machine noise is good - it has good built in sound suppression and when running idle it is not noisy at all.
the unit weighs about 300kg (?)
the new grey / red livery is a nice improvement on the old banana green - cosmetic change only :D .
the frame is solid steel with pressed metal panels.
approx $5k to your door - if you've got the cash you wont regret this machine.
