Hi all, I got a slightly obscure question...Does anyone know of a supplier if 0.3mm veneer in Australia?
I've been keeping an eye out for a while. The only place I'm aware of that sell it is Crispins and sons in east London. It would be great to get it from somewhere a bit closer.
Any leeds would be much appreciated!

Phone Peter Scott-Young in East Ringwood. He has a fantastic range of veneer stock, and might just have what you want. 03-9870-8773:)

Hes probably going to use it on headstocks. The thinner veneers usually used on classical guitar headstocks where there's usually a sandwich of at least 3 veneers.

Alot of steel string builders also using veneers as part of soundhole rossettes these days.

Wow thanks for such a speedy response!
I've already asked Peter scott young, he is a really cool supplier I agree! has most things.
I'll ask rivergum if they do thinner veneers, thanks Grant, never come across them before. I rang Britton bros, they may be persuaded to cut some thin veneer, I'll see how I go. The darkest wood they cut to veneer is blackwood, which would be nice.
I like the look of really thin lines! no better reason than that really. Stew mac and lmi sell strips of black/white in 0.3mm but for about $2 a strip it gets a bit costly, and limited what you can do with purfling strips rather than veneer sheets.

You know, you can also get "edge binding" from most cabinet makers. Its usually about 1mm or down to about .06, but its fantastic stuff, comes in all wood types, usually in a 20mm width, quite reasonibly priced and laminates beautifully.
Just dont get the pre glued stuff.
I hope that helps a little :2tsup:

Some replies are definitely worth waiting 3 years for.:)(

20mm width is very limiting.

LMAO, sorry i guess i should read the dates before posting. Possibly a good reminder to check the dates on canned food before consuming too.
Ahhh well, beter late than never. And the idea is still valid.

Yeah typically about 20mm, but i belive it also comes in wider and thicker gauges also. Im just not sure how wide binding can get, ive never asked,,, yet.

Hey, Jack,
Do you need I found this from China? If you told me the speciese and the grain you need. I think that I can get some for you from China. There is a very big veneer market in Shanghai.

Try Matilda Veneer in Molendinar, Queensland (Gold Coast).
As well as supplying the funiture and joinery trades they also supply Maton with timber. Mostly Qld. Maple I believe.
Ask for Rob or Anthony 5594 0655. Super helpful guys.
