There's more good WW books out there than you can point a stick at!

But one I tend to refer to first for quick info on properties, covering many decorative woods & good photos of their grains is:

"The Wood Handbook" by Nick Gibbs. ISBN-13 978-1-84566-159-5

Mainly non-aussie timbers, but handy just the same. :)

Bootle's book is the bible on Oz timbers. Doesn't have 10 commandments but they can easily be distilled from the turning and timber forums here.

There should be number 11: if you're going to part the Red Sea make sure you've got backup like you get here ... heh heh

There's a link (http://www.worldwideflood.com/ark/wood/timber_list.htm)here with quite a few Aussie timbers, but it has no explanation on what the measures are if you don't already know.

Good link John.

MOR - bending strength under short-term load
MOE - dimensional response under load
Comp - perpendicular to the grain: max across the grain stress applied through a plate covering part of the timber without causing damage
Hardness - resistance to wear

... source: Bootle. Toughness not listed.

Edit: density, from the table obviously weight by measure of volume.
