Its the corners of the body part of the box that I am interested in. I first thought the corners were dovetailed, then on closer look saw they were some other type of joint. Are they mitred with small mitre keys ??

Anyone know.

It looks somewhat simmilar to Incra's double double dovetails/box joints.

I love how the front panel looks like a sweeping landscape (and of course I'm biased to Sturts Desert Pea - state flower of gods country) :D

OK, have I just been a complete twat, and not picked up on Tony's suttle hint that he is the craftsman?

If so, consider myself slapped, and well done Tony :)

I agree, it looks something like one of Incra's double, double, but in this case with the lines as they are, it could be a little more straight forward with prior assembled pcs., then glued in place.

It sure looks like the Incra double joint.

Here's a couple of pics showing how it's done. I made this up a few weeks back when i got my Incra and wanted to have a rough test run of the template for the double box joints. It's done on pine with a jarrah infill and shows how the joint looks before putting it together. You can even go further by having the second piece done in jarrah and use the pine for the infill. I used these timbers so the contrast could be seen easily.

Maybe i might do a video of them, just to show how they are done from scratch. Pretty simple but very effective.

I'm fairly certain the maker is Eugene Zacharewicz. I'd also hazard a guess that an Incra doesn't get anywhere near the boxes he makes.

As for the corner joint I think it may be Dovetailed with the top edges mitred. The contrast could be caused by the basic box being made with a light coloured timber (inside the top edge is also light) then dark veneers applied to the outside. Just a guess helped by a few more pictures in Wood Review #37.

there is absolutely no reason for you to dis-regard yourself and my apologies for the brevity of my initial response in this thread - I think the craftsman is EUGENE ZACHAREWICZ (http://www.veneerinlayaustralia.com.au/cgi-bin/engine.pl?Page=page.html&Rec=193), it has some of the hallmarks of his fine work.

It would be great to see Eugene join this Forum!
