I know this is off topic, but can anyone tell me where I might find out how much an old mandolin (1920's) I want to sell is worth? Google is not my best friend in this case. BTW I am near Sydney if that helps.

There are old mando's and old mandos..... you could try poking around elderly instruments site http://www.elderly.com/ to get an idea.

Has it got any maker's information?

Pic?

It has got two words on it. Silvestri & Catania.

Not being an expert in Musical instrument valuation, it seems that Silvestri's Mando's are reasonably well regarded.

This one is for sale for roughly $1,100 Aus (http://www.pamelasmusic.co.uk/images/Forsale/string/mandolins/M141.htm)

If this isn't you on eBay at the moment, with a day to go it's $150.00 and a fair bit of interest. Mandolin Auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ANTIQUE-SILVESTRI-ITALIAN-MANDOLIN-AND-CASE_W0QQitemZ190045570198QQihZ009QQcategoryZ10179QQcmdZViewItem)

But then there are quite a few around the $10.00 mark as well.

Perhaps a message to the Pommy mob will help, or you could try a search for
"Ermelinda Silvestri , Catania, Italia"

Cheers,

P
