Ok .....

Here are my first batch of band saw boxes. The first has already been shown here however the remainder were made in a batch for this weekends woodcraft exhibition.

It is quite clear that the boxes all come from ....
"Building Beautiful Boxes With Your Band Saw" (Lois Keener Ventura)
which cant be beaten when you are just starting out on the boxes. With a few under my belt I am keen now to try my hand at designing a few to develop that original touch.

The timber is all unkown. Previously used as packing creates for the Ford Motor Company here in Geelong. Most likely Southern Aisan timbers ..... all of which was going to landfill before it had a second chance of life as a box.

Very nice! Did I see them on display at the show? The wood looks familiar.

The blanks were first glued up and then I resized a heap of plans from the book at Office Works to get a design to fit the blank. Most are slightly smaller than the book with #2 being at least 50% of the original design.

The handles are all custom sketches at the last moment .... not 100% happy with many but it was a last minute thing. The boxes were finished the night before setup at the show.

Finish is Rustins Danish Oil ..... 2-3 coats (Very easy to apply) .... final coat cutback with EEE .... and then finished with U-Beaut traditional wax. The EEE and wax were applied with a U-Beaut Swansdown mop. The internals of the boxes are finished with black flocking powder.

(Note: See Jim Carrolls Website for the all of the finishing items in one place http://cws-store.yahoostore.com.au/cgi/index.cgi/shopfront/view_by_category?category_id=1107144873)

I would hope so :D

When I arrived just after 12.00pm a few had sold already which was good ..... It is suprising that the one that I like best, and the one the Stinkette likes best, are still available. We will be quite happy to bring them home. ;)

Very nice boxes, love the shape of the handles. If it's not a rude question how do you arive at a price for your work, I start at $35-00 for a single draw and add $10-00 for each extra draw then I consider the value of the wood and the appearance of the finished box. I am out of action for a little while as I have had a ? thing removed from the back of my left hand.

P.S. Can anyone tell me if there is a spell check for these threads. My computer can't spell.

The way I Price my work is Basically the amount of time it takes to do and the type of woods used. . I have just now realized that I have accidentally started my Post and Sir Stinkalot's Thread and do apologize!! I will be starting a new Thread in the next couple of days with a new Design, Another for Spell Check is if you use Mozilla Firefox for your Browser it comes with it!! See you on a new thread soon
