I guess you start by finding a blonde :D

Glen L is good. Do a google on boat plans, there are a few companies that do the old style runabouts.

Here is a link every boat builder should have in his favourites:

Forget the blonde, they're a dime a dozen.

I'd kill for the 1960's outboard!!!

You NEVER trust me on terminology, that is doubly so when it comes to something as regional as boat descriptions

Dredge though that massive page of links I mentioned. You'll find places that have the old plans from that era, not just modern renditions of the same. I'm not saying that's a better way to go (Mik has talked before about modern materials and glues and how they change the design of boats, so do some digging through the forum) but it will give you an idea of names, shapes, looks and the like.

Hi Daddles,

Your advice is spot on.

The biggest resource of plans of that sort are GlenL they have probably dozens to choose from.

Epoxy can be used to simplify the building process if you want to go that way.

eg eliminating fastenings - almost no screws or nails in the structure, use of cordless drills etc.

Have a look at my FAQ on epoxy boatbuilding to get an overview

Well, that foto is from the web page of a gentleman who sells ChrisCraft replica kits. He hails from Pennsylvania, USA. The problem is, I'm not recalling his name. I'm almost as old as Mik, and have that problem often <G>. If you Google chris craft replica, or chris craft kit, you'll come across it.

Hi Jamie,

The boat you have pictured is of the 14' Zephyr from James Craft Boats ("replica Chris Craft kits and boats"). Website is:

http://www.jimshotwellboats.com/html/boat_kits.html

...and scroll down, you'll see the same pic. I'm pretty sure Glen-L (www.glen-l.com) do something the same or pretty similar.

Something this size should give you good exposure to techniques, etc and be a manageable size...although if you can stretch to a couple of extra feet that opens up more options, especially in the Glen-L range.

Good luck with it...don't forget to post pics here when you get started (as I will...one day  )

Regards,
Darren
