If youre going to go for an acoustic bass guitar then check out some of the artices in the GAL Big Red Book series. In particular check out the article by Dave Freeman...he built one using the spanish method.

Don't worry Mr Contrebasse I don't think I will be much competition. I just love the earthy look of the bass and great choice of timber is the ultimate touch to such a funky instrument.
