I am about to make a headboard for a king size bed using a Tas Oak frame and Tas Oak veneered MDF.
I plan to route a dado into which the MDF will fit.
My query is, how deep should the dado be ?

Depends on how thick your Posts and the MDF is. And it the MDF structural?

My mistake Wayne for not including the measurements.
The veneer is 17mm and will measure approx 1850 by 800. The frame is 50 wide by 34 thick and the veneer will be fully supported.

Mate,

Well, going on your measurements (and I am NOT an expert), I would think a 10mm deep dado (slot, groove, whatever) would be fine and would allow for any movement of the Timber.

The experts on the forum will probably correct me in a very short time if I have not considered something but this is what I would do given your (brief) description.

Post a pic when you finish it and good luck.

Many thanks Wayne. Failing any advice to the contrary I will work on 10mm. As a very inexperienced operator this is the sort of area where I feel very inadequate.

10-12mm should suffice given that the veneer is supported.
Cheers:)
